Eco friendly Instagram

Updated: Jan 17, 2021

This week on the Eco forum; The lowdown on Instagram Eco. From small and sustainable business, to informative and activist accounts, here are a few of our favourite places to find eco information on Instagram.

Let’s face it. We all spend more time than is strictly necessary scrolling through Instagram. So a nice way to dilute the content we consume is to follow accounts that aim to inform you or advertise products that aren't made by criminally underpaid workers and travel thousands of air miles to get to you.

@earthrise.studio

Much like us, earthrise is a youth-led media company and online community that aims to promote a new perspective on climate change. It’s focus is on optimism and creativity when facing the climate crisis, and as I’m sure you will agree, positive news is something we are in incredibly short supply of lately. Expect content such as ’20 reasons for hope in 2020’ and ‘How to shop greener’.

@discoverethos

Discover Ethos (a platform co-founded in Jersey) is both a platform for sustainable business, and a place where stunningly beautiful aesthetics are clearly appreciated. The account provides an abundance of gift ideas that come from small, sustainable businesses based in the UK. A wonderfully curated collection of content (not to mention a brilliant blog!).

@natgeo

This one might seem strange, but for the sake of variety on Instagram, it’s a life changer. It’s fair to say that most of us don’t use Instagram to unleash our inner David Attenborough (although you should definitely drop @davidattenborough a follow if you haven’t already) but it’s surprisingly refreshing to come across a reminder of the natural world every now and then in the form of breathtaking photography.

@weareveganuary

A useful one for any of you who might be attempting a month of veganism this year. This account will keep you up to date with the latest vegan foods available in supermarkets. Even if you aren't attempting a vegan diet, the account certainly has some stark information to share. Did you know for example, that around 7 billion male chicks are slaughtered every year due to being devoid of use for the food industry? Eye-opening to say the least.

@wearetrouva

This account focuses more on small business than Eco-specific content (but as we know small businesses have a far smaller impact on the earth). Trouva shares gorgeously designed and delightfully unique pieces of homeware, fashion and lifestyle items. Here lies the answer to all of this year's panic-induced birthday present hunts – thank us later. :)

Got a nifty planet-friendly tip you think we should all try? Let us know!
