A New Era

As of 11:49 AM EST on Wednesday the 20th of January, 11 minutes before the legal start to his term (much to the BBC's bemusement), Joe Biden became the 46th President of the United States. This inauguration marked an end to the austerity and hatred former president Trump promoted, and marks the dawn of democracy set to prevail once again.

In just one day Biden has:

-stopped the US withdrawal from the WHO

-rejoined the Paris climate agreement

-ended Trump’s anti-immigration policies and travel ban to 7 majority muslim countries

-put in place a mandate requiring people to wear masks on all federal property and land

The Biden-Harris administration brings much needed change, Vice President Kamala Harris being the first Black woman and first Indian-American to hold office. But with this change should not come complacency. Although a welcomed President and VP, they still need to be held to account over the promises they have made to the American people, for we should always strive for progression and change and never settle.
