A First Year at JCG

A reflection on her first year at JCG, by Phoebe Carey in Year 7.

My first year at JCG was so special, I never thought a year could be so busy, but also go so fast. Lots of things have happened since September to now, especially when you throw COVID into the mix, from walking into form for the first time to doing my first lot of end of year exams in May. I have made friends from different schools and kept old ones from JCP. The transition from JCP to JCG was very seamless, seeing that everyone was so welcoming and friendly.

When I was thinking about joining JCG I was scared about getting lost, but the sleepless nights I spent worrying about getting lost in JCG were some of the most time-wasting things possible; JCG is one of the easiest places to get around ever! When I heard that we had to wear masks around school I wasn’t that impressed, but I knew that it would keep us all safe and healthy. Getting our Year 12 buddies was a big help as they gave us good advice and helped us on our journey through year 7. The social distancing throughout the year has had a toll on all of us, especially with our teachers not being able to help us with one to one work, and also with getting to know people in the older year groups. But overall my first year has still been a lot of fun.

The thing I love most about JCG is the opportunities the school gives us to be the best versions of ourselves. Another thing I love is the amount of fundraising we do to make people feel happy and have something they have always wanted. Even though this year hasn’t exactly been normal, I have enjoyed it so much, I can't wait for the next 6 years to come.
